민족문화로서 한국어 연구의 지평—『민족문화연구』의 한국어학 연구 경향과 전망에 부쳐—

이 논문은 고려대 민족문화연구원 학술지 『민족문화연구』 지령 100호를 맞아 이 학술지에 게재된 한국어 연구가 어떤 경향으로 변화해 왔는지 『민족문화연구』에 실린 한국어학 관련 논문들을 중심으로 그 연구의 역사적 변천을 살핀 연구이다. 이 논문에서는 이러한 한국어학 연구의 결실을 바탕으로 향후 『민족문화연구』의 미래를 위해 새롭게 모색해야 할 과제와 전망에 대해 ‘한국학 연구의 발자취와 새로운 방향 모색’이라는 주제로 살펴보았다. 본문에서는 우선 논의의 전제로 ‘민족문화’와 ‘민족어’로서 한국어의 위상 문제를 간략하게 다루었다. 또한 본론에서는 한국학, 한국문화로서 한국어 연구의 성과를 시대별로 조망하였다. 1970년대 이전부터 1970년대, 1980년대, 1990년대, 2000년대, 그리고 2010년대 이후부터 현재에 이르기까지 『민족문화연구』에 실린 어학적 성과를 전통적인 한국어학 연구 경향과 시대별로 두드러진 어학적 성과로 나누어 살펴보았다. 그리고 각 시대적 의미를 한국어학사의 시선에서 평가하고자 했다. 결론적으로 이 연구는 민연의 학술지 『민족문화연구』 중심의 한국어학사이다. 물론 『민족문화연구』의 한국어 연구가 지난 60년의 한국어학사 전체를 대변할 수는 없다. 그러나 『민족문화연구』의 한국어학 연구의 특징과 경향을 통해서 한국어학사 전체의 한 줄기의 맥락을 확인할 수 있었다. 요컨대, 이 논문은 한국학으로서 한국어학 연구의 다양성과 확장을 보여주는 학술지 『민족문화연구』의 한국어 연구사라 할 수 있을 것이다.
Abstract
This article aims to examine the historical trends and characteristics of Korean language studies in the papers published in Korean Cultural Studies (『민족문화연구』). After identifying the Korean language as the national language that manifests the national culture, I discuss what has been done and what needs to be done more in the area of Korean language studies. More specifically, I examine said papers based on different time periods: pre-1970s, 1970s, 1980s, 1990s, 2000s, and 2010s. The papers are then further categorized based on research trends and linguistic achievements, which in turn are evaluated within a broader perspective of Korean linguistics history. While it is true that the research published in Korean Cultural Studies cannot be said to be representative examples, there is no denying that we can identify some trends by chronologically examining the papers. Overall, this article deals with the history of Korean Cultural Studies, which evaluates the depth, diversity, and expansion of traditional Korean language studies.
