사대치력(四對治力)에 의한 업장소멸에 대하여 - 쫑카빠의 『보리도차제광론』을 중심으로 -

본고는 티벳 후기불교 쫑카빠의 저술 『보리도차제광론』을 중심으로 업장 소멸법으로써의 사대치력을 고찰하고자 한다. 사대치력를 고찰하기 앞서 업장소멸 문제와 관련하여 쟁점이 되는 카르마의 보편적 특징과 정․부정수업에 대하여 먼저 논의한다. 본격적으로 완전히 업장을 소멸하는 방법으로 제시된 사대치력의 의미를 논의하면서 선행연구 “쫑카빠의 참회론” 고찰을 비판적으로 검토하여 사대치력의 의미를 한층 명시적으로 드러낸다. 이어서 사대치력으로 업장이 소멸되는 방식과 그것이 업장소멸을 하는 데 어떠한 메커니즘으로 기능하는지 살펴본다. 마지막으로 사대치력에 의한 업장소멸에 대한 의구심과 제 문제를 쫑카빠가 어떻게 해소하는지 고찰하여 업장소멸에 대한 의심이나 잘못된 사견을 불식함으로써 사대치력에 의해 업장소멸의 가능성을 재확인하고 실질적인 삶의 영역에서 악업을 버리고 선업을 이행하는 신행의 방향을 제시한다.
Abstract
This paper examines paper examines the four oppositional powers as a method of purification Karma, focusing on the “Lamrim Chenmo”, written by Tsongkhapa of the late Tibetan Buddhism. Before considering the four oppositional power, this paper first discuss the universal characteristics of the karma and the definitive karma(定受業) and the indeterminate karma(不定受業) in relation to a debatable ground on purification of Karma. While discussing the meaning of the four powers presented as a complete remedy a Karma hindrance, the previous study "A Study on Tsong-kha-pa's Confession" is critically reviewed to reveal the meaning of the four powers more explicitly. Next, this paper examines the form in which the karma is extinguished by four powers and how it functions as a mechanism for purification the karma. Finally, this paper examines how Tsongkhapa solves the doubts and problems on purification of Karma by four powers, and by dispelling doubts or wrong views about purification of Karma, reaffirms the possibility of Karma's extinction by four powers. As a result, it presents the direction of asceticism to abandon bad karma and practice good karma in the real life area.
