청년기 일-여가 관계 인식의 변화: 대학 동아리활동 체험자를 중심으로

초록

이 연구는 대학에서 동아리활동을 경험한 신입 취업자들을 대상으로 심층면접을 하여 대학 동아리활동 경험이 당시 학업생활과 현재 노동생활과 어떤 관계가 있다고 인식하는지 살펴보고, 이를 통해 청년기에 일-여가 관계에 대한 인식이 어떻게 변화하는지 고찰한 생애사적 접근의 현상학적 연구이다. 대학교에서 2년 이상 동아리활동에 참여한 9명의 신입 취업자들을 심층면접하여 분석한 결과, 5개 주제묶음과 13개 주제가 도출되었다. 연구참여자들이 보여준 일-여가 관계 인식은 ‘동시대의 일-여가 관계’와 ‘생애과정의 일-여가 관계’ 인식으로 나눌 수 있었다. 동시대의 일-여가 관계면에서 연구참여자들은 교과활동(전공공부)에서 충족하지 못했던 정서적 안정감, 성취감, 사회적 유대감을 동아리 활동을 통해 충족할 수 있었다고 인식하고 있어서 일-여가 “대립(opposition)(Parker, 1965)” 관계로 인식하였다. 반면, 생애과정 일-여가 관계면에서 연구참여자들은 대학 동아리활동에서 개발한 역량과 인맥(사회적 자본)이 구직활동과 현재 직장생활을 하는 데에 긍정적 도움을 주었다고 인식하고 있어서 일-여가 “촉진(facilitation)(Liang, 2018)” 관계로 인식하였다. 동일한 대학 동아리활동에 관한 일-여가 관계 인식이 대학시절에 대립 관계에서 졸업 후 촉진 관계로 변한 이유는 두 가지로 볼 수 있는데 대학시절 학업보다 현재 직장 업무에 대해 더 만족하여 일에 대한 태도가 변했기 때문이고, 동아리활동을 통해 습득하는 장기적이고 누적적 효과를 동시대에 인식하기가 쉽지 않기 때문이다. 따라서 일-여가 관계는 ‘동시대의 일-여가 관계’뿐만 아니라 ‘생애과정의 일-여가 관계’도 함께 고려하여 그 연구 범위를 확장시킬 필요가 있다.

Abstract

This study aims to investigate the change of the perception of work-leisure relationship among college clubs participants in young adulthood by employing a phenomenological research with a life-history perspective. The study conducts in-depth interviews with nine new hired college graduates who have joined in an extracurricular club more than two years in their college. Data analysis results in five clusters of themes and 13 themes. The study finds both the ‘contemporary work-leisure relationship’ and, at the same time, the ‘lifecourse work-leisure relationship’ that represents the work-leisure relationship constructed over time in an individual life course. On the one hand, while at college, the interviewees have joined the club because it could make them feel the sense of accomplishment, affection, and social support not fulfilled with in studying their major and/or vocational training. The findings show that the interviewees cosidered the work-leisure relationship in their college as the opposition model(Parker, 1965). On the other hand, the interviewees thought their experiences and knowledge developed from the club activities positively influenced their present job performance. Thus, the work-leisure facilitation model(Liang, 2018) can apply to the lifecourse work-leisure relationship. In short, the interviewees’ perception of work-leisure relationship has changed from the oppostion model to the facilitation model. As a result, this study suggests that both the ‘contemporary work-leisure relations’ and the ‘lifecousre work-leisure relations’ should be investigated to fully understand the work-leisure relationshiip in a person’s life.
