Abstract
‘A christian theology of religions’ can be developed into a ‘christian dogmatics of religions’ that deals with the doctrinal themes of the christian faith under the reflection of the plurality and complexity of religions. Here Paul Tillich’s theology of religion as an example of a christian dogmatics of religions is reconstructed and reinterpreted critically. The author examines Tillich’s theological thinking in asking if his argument for the uniqueness of the ultimate revelation of Jesus as the Christ can be still available and effective against the same claims of the other religions. The fact that we live in the situation of religious pluralism makes a pressing demand for a self-critical reflection and a mutual critique in order to come to maturity together. The religious claim of the ultimate revelation cannot be cast off not only for the christian faith but also for the other faiths. We must start the interreligious dialogue from each particular standpoint, not from the universal-transcendental. After his critical questioning, the author suggests alternative ways for a christian dogmatics of religions that would not be thought monocentrically, but polycentrically. The alternative ways of Theology of Religions will contribute not only to a new creative relationship between the religions, but also to a new understanding of the christian faith.
