Abstract

On June 3rd 1908 the first seven graduates of the Severance Hospital Medical School were granted the first Korean medical licences, they received license numbered from 1 to 7 in sequence. The Korean Government decorated Drs. Kim Pil-sun, Park Seo-yang, Shin Chang-hee, Chu Hyun-chik with the Order of Independence. Another graduate Dr. Kim Hee-young died of sequela from torture by the Japanese police. In 1907 as medical students, they cared many Korean soldiers who were wounded during their fight with the Japanese colonial government. This experience motivated them to devote their lives to the independence of Fatherland. These first graduates were leading figures of the independence movement of the 1910s.
