최근 인공지능에 대한 관심과 함께 역설적으로 인간 고유의 영역으로 간주되는 감정에 대한 학문적 관심도 늘어나고 있다. 그러한 경향에 맞춰 최근 들어 신경과학, 심리학, 그리고 철학 분야 등에서 감정에 관한 여러 연구 결과들이 발표되고 있는 실정이다. 그럼에도 불구하고 상황에 따라 다양한 양태를 보이며, 때로는 모순적이고 역설적인 감정을 규명하기 위한 체계적이고 분석적인 개념이 결핍된 상태라고 판단된다. 이러한 이유로, 본고에서는 감정에 대한 분석적 접근과 그것을 시각화할 수 있는 토대를 제공하는 라반의 에포트(efforts) 개념을 기반으로, 감정의 지형(feelfortscapes)이라는 개념을 새롭게 제시하였다. 중간 과정으로서 그 하위 개념인 정서 에포트(emotion efforts)와 에포트 지형(effortscapes)이라는 개념도 함께 제시하고 있다. 본 연구의 목적이 감정에 대한 새로운 개념 정립에 있으므로, 공연예술연구를 비롯하여 여러 학문에 기여할 구체적인 활용방안에 대해 미처 논의하지 못하는 한계점이 존재한다. 이러한 점을 다소 보완하고자 공연예술연구에 기여할 가능성과 추후의 연구 방향에 대해서 간략하게 언급하였다.
Abstract
Recently, there has emerges been a spate of interest in emotions, as a characteristic that is uniquely human and in contrast to the capabilities of AI(artificial intelligence). Studies pertaining to this topic have been pursued in neuroscience, psychology, and philosophy. I posit however, that we still lack the systematic vocabulary or an analytical framework with which to discuss the contradictory and paradoxical nature of emotions. Therefore, this paper suggests an approach based on Laban’s theory of efforts, namely, the concept of "feelfortscapes". Furthermore, I also introduce and define the related concepts of “emotion efforts” and “effortscapes”. The aim of this paper is to contribute to academic discourse about emotions through the establishment of these concepts. The paper concludes by suggesting further possible areas of discussion.
