이 연구는 드보르와 야스거 요른이 공동 제작한 『회상(Mémoires)』의 내용을 ‘작품 없는 예술’과 ‘도시의 시학’으로 개념화하여 검토함으로써 상황주의자 인터내셔널 초기의 예술과 도시를 둘러싼 사유와 전용이라는 실험행동에 깃든 실천적 함의를 조명하고자 한다. 이 연구가 『회상』에 주목하는 이유는 크게 세 가지이다. 첫째, 『회상』은 드보르와 요른의 공동 작품이라는 점에서 상황주의자들의 집단적 아방가르드의 문제 틀을 구현한 작품이기 때문이다. 둘째, 『회상』은 상황주의자 인터내셔널의 창립 강령인 「보고서」에 망라된 목표와 실천 방침들이 생성된 발생사적 맥락을 담고 있다는 점에서 상황주의자 인터내셔널의 전반적인 문제의식을 이해하는 핵심적인 텍스트이기 때문이다. 셋째, 『회상』의 텍스트적구조는 상황주의자들의 실험 행동의 본령인 전용을 철저하게 구현한 작품이기 때문이다. 이 연구는 기존 연구에서 충분히 다뤄지지 않은 텍스트인 『회상』에 분석의 초점을 맞춤으로써 상황주의자 인터내셔널의 예술과 도시를 둘러싼 사유와 실천에 대한 이해의 폭을 넓히는 계기가 될 것으로 기대한다.
Abstract
This study takes as its subject Guy Debord and Asger Jorn’s Mémoires with the purpose of reconsidering the implications of the experimental behaviors in the early period of the Situationist International, and the concepts of “art without works” and “poetics in the urban.” As a collaborative piece between Debord and Jord, Mémoires as a text reveals the issues of the Situationist International as a collective avantgarde. Secondly, it describes the initial goals of the Situationist International, and summarizes their construction of the situation and unitary urbanism. The task of the avant-garde was to transform the urban environment, and the physical condition of art creation, not just to create new art. Situationists tried to intervene in the everyday life in the city with experimental behaviors conceptualized as dérive, psychogéography, and détournement. This was an attempt to re-appropriate the urban environment captured by exchange value and exhibition value in the context of use value. This study re-examines the unrealized possibilities in the experimental behaviors of Situationists, focusing on Mémoires, which contains the historical memories of the emergence of main problematics of Situationist International.
