영남 풍속춤에서 덧배기의 용어인식과 개념 고찰- 덧배기에서 <덧배기춤>과 <덧배기춤놀이>를 중심으로

본 연구는 문헌자료에 의해 영남 지역의 전통 풍속춤인 ‘덧배기’에서 ‘덧배기춤’과 ‘덧배기춤놀이’의 용어와 개념을 고찰한다. 여기서 풍속춤으로 ‘덧배기’라는 용어는 영남지역에서 포괄적 의미의 향토춤을 말한다. 하지만 형식을 갖춘 작품적인 ‘덧배기춤’은 부정한 것이나 귀 것을 물리치는 방법이 현존하는 민속무용학적으로 귀중한 의식무로, 마을 행사 전에 부정한 것을 물리쳐서 마당을 청정하게 하는 지신진압무용이다. 이는 마을 성주지신을 깨워서 한해의 복과 덕을 받기 위한 땅밟기춤이다. 이 춤의 형식은 굿거리장단에서 배김새춤사위군에 의하고, 자진모리장단에서 상하동하여 살만교적인 춤을 추면서 사행선의 길놀이로 마무리된다. 그리고 ‘덧배기춤놀이’는 지신밟기놀이에서 추어지는 지신진압무용으로, 형식을 갖춘 ‘덧배기춤’과 연동되어 대등의 세계를 이끄는 대동놀이이다. 이 연구의 성과는 영남에서 전래된 ‘덧배기’에서 ‘덧배기춤’, 그리고 ‘덧배기춤놀이’의 용어 인식을 명확하였다.
Abstract
This study reviews the concepts of Deotbaegi, Deotbaegi Choom, and Deotbaegi Choomnori, traditional folk dances of Yeongnam, Korea. While Deotbaegi broadly refers to the folk dances of the Yeongnam region, the more formal Deotbaegi Choom is a ritual dance performed before village events to repel evil spirits and purify space. It serves as both an earth-pacifying dance and a ritual to invoke local deities’ blessings. This dance follows the flow of traditional rhythms. It follows Baegimsae in Gutgeori and groundstamping in Jajinmori. When performed in a communal setting, it becomes Deotbaegi Choomnori. This study clarifies the meanings and functions of these terms within the context of Yeongnam’s cultural heritage
