Abstract
In this study a thermal, hydraulic, and mechanical coupled analysis of high-level radioactivewaste disposal facilities is presented. This coupled analysis was carried out to simulate the deepdisposal facilities of high-level radioactive waste in saturated geologic media. Most materialproperties based on the KBS-3 concept for numerical studies were determined. The results ofthese numerical studies show that the temperature distribution around an underground openingreached the maximum value at about 10 years after the emplacement of high-level radioactivewaste. The maximum upward displacement due to the heat generation of high-level radioactivewaste was about 0.9cm at about 10 years later. The quantity of groundwater inflow into adisposal opening increased by about 1.6 times at 20 years later.
