초록
The aim of the article is to show how definiteness/indefiniteness influences the presence/absence of non-coreferential complements in Slavic languages, such as Russian, Polish, Czech, and Bulgarian. If there is no coreferential antecedent in the context or in the situation, the indefiniteness of the complement itself or the indefiniteness of the verbal aspect can lead to the absence of complements in Slavic sentences. Here, indefinite complements refer to non-referential, heterogeneous, potential, or generalized objects. Iterative, durative, and other meanings of imperfective aspects in Slavic verbs are also indefinite. The definiteness, on the contrary, of the complement and the verbal aspect blocks the ellipsis of non-coreferential complements in Slavic languages. Slavic languages, such as Russian, Polish, Czech, and Bulgarian, have in common that definiteness/indefiniteness plays a significant role in the ellipsis of non-coreferential complements. However, Bulgarian, whose posterior definite articles as a grammatical category reveal the definiteness/indefiniteness of nouns, explicitly allows for the ellipsis of non-coreferential complements less frequently than Russian, Polish, or Czech.
