식민지 조선에 있어 회사의 폐업률에 대한 통계적 고찰

본 논문은 『조선은행회사조합요록』에 수록된 회사정보를 각 회사의 연도별 자료로 재구성하고, 프로빗 모형을 사용하여, 회사의 폐업률을 분석한 것이다. 회사의 폐업률은 업종, 자본금의 규모, 지역, 연령, 지배구조 등에 의해 영향을 받는데, 이와 같은 요인들이 회사의 폐업률에 어떠한 영향을 미쳤는지를 고찰하였다. 본 연구의 분석결과는 이러한 요인을 통제한 이후에도 한국인 회사의 폐업률은 일본인 회사의 폐업률보다 유의하게 낮았음을 보여준다. 회사의 연령과 회사의 폐업률 간에는 비선형적 관계를 가질 수 있는데, 연령더미를 사용하여 회사의 연령과 회사의 폐업률 간의 비선형적 관계를 고찰하였다. 한국인 회사는 일본인 회사보다 평균연령이 더 낮았는데, 낮은 연령일수록 폐업률은 급속하게 증가하였기 때문에, 연령더미를 넣어 분석하면 한국인 회사의 폐업률은 일본인 회사의 폐업률보다 더욱 낮아진다. 본 연구는 식민지기 한국인 회사의 증가는 한국인의 왕성한 회사 창업열 못지않게 한국인 회사의 강한 생존능력에도 기인하고 있음을 보여준다.
Abstract
This article investigates closure rate of corporation in colonial Korea, using various information about corporation recorded in Joseon Eunhaeng Hoesa Johap Yorok(Biennial Reviews on colonial Korea's bank, corporation and cooperative associations). We use probit method to analyze closure rate of corporation. Types of business, the amount of capital, location, age, governance structure, nationality of corporation are included as explanatory variables. This article analyzes the effect of those explanatory variables on the closure rate of corporation and the effect of non-linear relationship between age and closure rate of corporation on analysis results. This analysis shows that Korean corporation had stronger viability than Japanese corporation and this fact can not be explained by the difference of types of business, the amount of capital, location, age composition, and governance structure between Korean and Japanese corporation.
