조선 문인의 陸游 인식에 끼친 朱熹의 영향

Abstract

This paper investigates Chu Hsi's influences on Chosŏn Confucians in their understanding of Lu You. In the first place, it studies Chu's influence on them in their opinion of Lu's integrity in later life. The History of Song quoted Chu's words to criticize Lu as failing to maintain his integrity as he wrote the Notes on Southern Garden for Han Tuozhou at his request. However, it was believed that this quotation was distorted. Since then the integrity of Lu in later life had been debated among different Confucians. It was widely accepted both in China and Chosŏn that Lu was believed to have forfeited his integrity. But differing from their Chinese counterparts, Chosŏn Confucians took their evidence from the interpretations in the works of Chu, especially his interpretation of the words of a Buddhist monk from the west in Vol. 6 of A Reply to Gong Feng, which was interpreted by them as Chu's criticism of Lu for his disgraceful behavior of seeking wealth at the cost of his reputation. Most Chosŏn Confucians accepted this interpretation and it even became an allusion, although this may not be the case since Chu had not read the Notes. Moreover, Confucians in Chosŏn rarely tried to make a defense for the stance of Lu, which was different from the Chinese Confucians. Secondly, the paper surveys the influence of Chu on Chosŏn Confucians in their embracing the poems of Lu. This influence was felt in the period from the end of 16th century to the middle and late period of 17th century where Lu' poems encountered cold reception in Chosŏn ; in the end of 17th century where the poems started to attract the attention of Chosŏn people; and in the moment where Jeongjo of Chosŏn decided to employ his poems as a key factor for carrying out writing style revolution.
