문해 교육과정에 나타나는 성인의 수학 소양 분석

Analysis of Adults’ Mathematical Literacy in the National Literacy Curricula

초록

본 연구는 성인에게 필요한 수학 소양을 함양하기 위한 교육이 어떻게 이루어지고 있는지 파악하기 위하여, 현재 우리나라에서 성인 대상으로 운영되는 유일한 국가 수준 교육과정인 문해교육 수학과 교육과정에 나타나는 성인의 수학 소양과 학교급별 교육과정에서의 추이를 연결중심성 분석과 질적 내용 분석 방법으로 분석하였다. 결론적으로, 현재 사용되고 있는 2020년에 개정된 최신 문해 교육과정은 이전 3개의 교육과정에 비해 교수학습 측면에서 여러 변화가 있었으나, 현재 성인에게 요구되는 수학 소양을 함양하기에 충분하다고 보기 어려웠다. 초등학교급과 중학교급의 수학적 기능의 차이가 컸으며, 중학교급에서 명시된 여러 기능의 개념이 명확하지 않았다. 향후 문해 교육과정에서는 문해 교육과정을 통해 함양하고자 하는 수학적 기능의 개념을 명확히 하고, 초등학교급과 중학교급 교육과정을 잘 연결되도록 설계할 필요가 있다. 또한 성인기 이후에도 수학 소양을 유지하고 개발할 수 있는 효과적인 방안에 대한 논의가 필요하다.

Abstract

This study analyzed the mathematical literacy in current literacy curricula, the only type of curriculum currently provided to adults at the national level, to investigate how the cultivation of mathematical literacy education necessary for adults is being conducted. This study adopted degree centrality and qualitative content analysis as methodology. The study concluded that while the latest literacy curriculum, revised in 2020, had changed pedagogically, the change was not enough to fully cultivate the mathematical literacy needed for adults. The results showed a large difference in mathematical skills between elementary and middle school levels, and furthermore revealed a lack of clarity of skills at the middle school level. For future literacy curricula, it is necessary to explicitly define the concept of mathematical skills to be cultivated, and to seamlessly integrate elementary and middle school curricula for adults. More discussions, with focus on effective methods, are necessary to sustain and enhance mathematical literacy beyond adulthood.
