초록
The Silla monks' theses in Hangukbulgyojeonseo (『韓國佛敎全書』, A collection of theses on Buddhism in Korea) is valuable as the primary data which transmit the thoughts of the Silla people. Beophwagyeongronsulgi (『法華經論述記』) is the literature to be investigated, in order to understand Uijeok's (義寂) ideology and the character of Buddhisim in the mid-Silla. To provide foundation for elucidating the ideas of Beophwagyeongronsulgi, this paper introduces its major contents, and considers the characteristics of organization and the issue of speaker, via capturing the relations among quotations. In terms of contents, Beophwagyeongronsulgi is bifurcated, by and large. The first part is developed in ‘Haeun’ (解云), and the second part consists of quotations from many disputants' opinions. The second again is dichotomous: The first half follows Jaeun's (慈恩) doctrine, while the second half mostly accepts Giljang's (吉藏) view. This division between the first and second parts may be ascribed to Uijeok's lecture format. That is to say, the first part is Uijeok's lecture on Beophwagyeongron (『法華經論』), which is presented in the form of ‘Haeun,’ and the second part is the interactive lecture between the master and disciples, which is inferred to be recorded by Uiil (義一), in the form of thesis. In line with this comes the issue of the speaker. The ‘Master’ (和上), appearing in the second part, turns out to be Uijeok. This is proven by the fact that it exactly corresponds to the ‘Master’ in ‘Haeun’ of the first part. The ‘Catechism’ (問答) is seen as the questions from the disciples and the answers from Uijeok. Therefore, ‘Haeun’ in the first part, and ‘Master’ and ‘Catechism’ in the later part are deemed to be Uijeok's own ideas. These sections, indeed, show crucial views of his which help to understand his ideology. Based on this fundamental research, the future work will look into Uijeok's perspective in more concrete detail.
