Abstract

This study is a literature survey on addiction, which is increasing interest in various social science fields. Although existing studies on addiction in different social science fields deal with the same phenomenon, there is no scholastic exchange between them, so each of them has a respective academic area of study. While the study on addiction in psychology, sociology, and social welfare is mainly conducted in phenomenal and clinical studies, the study on addiction in economics focuses on habit formation utility under the assumption that addicted consumers are reasonable. However, these different research approaches can be complemented by convergence in the future. Studies in psychology, sociology, and social welfare continue to find that comorbidity (transition phenomenon) occurs among different addiction phenomena. Therefore, this study discusses the possibility of multidisciplinary research in which the cause of comorbidity can be studied through the habit-forming utility function of economics. Ultimately, this literature study aims to enhance the interdisciplinary research possible in the field of social science.
