Abstract
This study highlights the necessity of a critical psychological approach to address various social issues within Korean psychology effectively. Traditional psychological methods, often grounded in Western perspectives, do not fully capture the unique socio-cultural contexts of Korea, limiting their effectiveness in dealing with issues such as loneliness, climate crisis, and housing instability. By employing the theoretical framework of critical psychology, this research aims to bridge these gaps by considering social, cultural, and environmental factors that influence mental health. It suggests reinterpreting psychological problems beyond individual factors, situating them within broader social structures and inequalities. This approach supports a more holistic understanding of mental health, advocating for the development of inclusive mental health support systems and active involvement of psychologists in policy-making and social advocacy. In doing so, the study aims to align psychological practices more closely with the realities of Korean society, promoting a more equitable and responsive mental health care system.
