본 연구는 고등학생을 대상으로 학교 수업 미참여 행위 예측요인을 구명하고자 수행되었다. 이를 위해 경기교육종단연구(GEPS) 자료를 사용하여 다층 순서형 로지스틱 회귀분석 모형(multilevel ordinal logistic regression model)을 통해 수업시간에 잠을 자는 행위 및 수업시간에 수업과 관련 없는 일을 하는 행위와 밀접한 연관성을 갖는 요인들을 살펴보았다. 분석 결과, 수업시간에 잠을 자거나 수업과 관련 없는 일을 하는 행위는 학교 특성보다 학생 특성과 밀접한 연관성을 갖는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 무동기는 수업시간에 잠을 자거나 수업과 관련 없는 일을 할 개연성을 높이는 반면, 특기·적성 측면 교육과정에 대한 만족도는 두 가지 유형의 학교 수업 미참여 행위에 의미 있는 억제요인으로 작용하는 것으로 밝혀졌다. 아울러 충분한 수면을 취하고 등교한 학생일수록 수업시간에 잠을 자거나 수업과 관련 없는 일을 할 개연성이 유의미하게 낮았다. 학생들의 진로 준비 방향도 학교 수업 미참여 행위와 밀접한 연관성을 보였다. 구체적으로 취업이나 창업 등을 준비하는 학생에 비해 정시를 집중적으로 준비하는 학생들은 수업시간에 잠을 자거나 수업과 무관한 행위를 하는 빈도가 유의미하게 높은 반면, 수시를 준비하는 학생들은 그 같은 행위를 보일 개연성이 뚜렷하게 낮았다. 한편 부모의 사회경제적 지위는 수업시간에 잠을 자는 행위와 연관성이 거의 없지만, 부모의 자녀에 대한 기대교육수준은 수업시간에 잠을 자는 행위에 억제요인으로 작용하는 것으로 나타났다. 연구결과를 중심으로 학교 수업 미참여 행위를 줄이기 위한 정책대안을 간략하게 논의하였다.
Abstract
This study drew upon data from the Gyeonggi Education Panel Study (GEPS) to examine the factors that influenced school disengagement behaviors among high school students. Using a multilevel ordinal logistic regression model, we aimed to identify key variables associated with two specific behaviors: sleeping in class and engaging in activities unrelated to the lesson. Our results indicated that student characteristics exerted a stronger influence on these behaviors than school characteristics. Specifically, we found that amotivation increased the likelihood of sleeping in class and doing unrelated work, while satisfaction with the curriculum in terms of skills and aptitudes served as a significant deterrent to both forms of school disengagement. Furthermore, students who arrived at school well-rested were significantly less likely to exhibit these behaviors. The chosen career path also showed a strong association with disengagement behaviors. In comparison to students preparing for employment or entrepreneurship, those focused on regular admission were more prone to sleeping in class and engaging in non-class related activities. Conversely, students preparing for early admission displayed a lower likelihood of such behaviors. While parental socioeconomic status had minimal impact on sleeping in class, parents' educational expectations for their children were found to discourage this behavior. Based on our findings, we discussed potential policy alternatives aimed at mitigating school disengagement behaviors.
