Modern Interpretation of Xunzi's Philosophy

This article suggests that by looking at Xunzi's thoughts, we can establish the right concept of value in the modern world. If the Confucianism of Mencius after Confucius is focused on strengthening the essential and subjective moral virtue of man and establishing the ideal ethics of human values, then Xunzi's philosophical theory is based on the theory of evil nature. He believes that human values are shaped by nature, not controlled by innate nature. Xunzi says that people are born with selfishness and various desires, and through the degree of brainwashing, that is, this system of coordinating selfishness and desire, can be good and evil. This article looks at conscious thinking that explains and concretely embodies the nature of Xunzi's philosophical thinking on the theory of nature and evil nature. The article concludes that if all citizens can correct their thoughts and set the right values, the chaotic social order can be reversed and transformed into a "harmonious society". Xunzi's social ethics can help modern people to overcome many difficulties and create an ideal human culture for modern people who are obsessed with materialism and lead to the loss of human nature.
