이 글은 라인하트 스토롬이 그의 발찬 프로젝트를 통해 재점화시킨 이후, 서구 음악학의 주요 주제로 등장하여, 수많은 서구 음악학자에게 학문적 도전을 안기고 있는, 그러나 국내에서는 거의 소개조차 된 적이 없는 ‘글로벌 음악사 담론’을 다루고 있다. 이를 위해 글로벌 음악사라는 것이 어떠한 사회적, 문화적, 학문적 맥락에서 등장했는지, 그리고 특별히 음악학 안에서 ‘글로벌’은 어떤 과정을 통해 우리 시대 음악학의 언어가 되었는지 2차문헌의 비판적인 독해를 통해 논의한다. 또한, 이 글은 발찬 프로젝트의 마지막 결과물인 ‘글로벌 시각으로 조망하는 바흐’ (Global Views on Bach) 연구로 돌아가, 글로벌 역사 서술을 지향하는 글들이 어떠한 문제의식과 내용, 그리고 방법론으로 논의를 풀어나가는지 관찰하고자 한다. 이를 통해 이 글은 글로벌 음악사의 의미와 그것이 국내 음악학자들에게 던지는 도전에 대해 고민한다.
Abstract
This article deals with a relatively new academic field, global musicology, first emerged in the Western musicological discourse around the 1990s, gaining more significance through the research carried out by some of the representative Western musicologists, such as, Reinhard Strohm. Although it has occupied one of the most important discourses taking place in musicology of now, its definition, methodology, scope, and purpose are not clearly formulated yet. However, this article attempts to delineate them by addressing the significance of precise, concrete, and critical local study and the notion of entangled history. While this will show that a clear distinction between the center and the peripheral culture is no longer sustainable, it challenges Korean musicologists as to what global musicology signifies for us.
