Abstract

Children’s websites among the websites of local autonomous entities can play a role in enhancing children’s interest in where they live and also provide a variety of educational information. Thereupon, this study comparatively analyzes visual factors through a research on overseas cases in order to examine if children’s websites of local autonomous entities provide a design suitable for their use. According to the result of this research, children’s websites of Korean local autonomous entities harmoniously use ‘delightful and cute’ color images and ‘natural and delicate’ color images based. They normally use decorative fonts for the titles and seem rather problematic in terms of readability. Besides, since they mostly use similar illustration graphic images and fonts, it seems that they lack originality. The children’s webpage of American states’ websites generally have a high portion of contents, and their main pages are mostly linked. In regard of graphic images, picture images are often used in the banners on the upper side. The use of distinctive colors with high brightness and chroma is associated with the expression of ‘dynamic, modern, and delightful’ sensitivity adjectives. In term of front use, decorative fonts and Sans Serif are often employed. In the children’s website of Todofuken, Japan, graphic images are mostly expressed with cartoon characters, and this helps the understanding of general contents. And the use of various additional colors with high brightness and chroma express ‘cute and pure’ sensitivity adjectives. It is considered that children’s websites of local autonomous entities should be improved so that they can provide a design that is unique enough to publicize the region and is also interesting and suitable for information transmission for children of its users.
