초록

This paper explores syntactic structures and semantic interpretations of adnominal noun constructions. Adnominal nouns can be viewed either as roots or as nouns depending on their distributions. Based on Distributed Morphology, this paper offers an analysis of adnominal noun constructions as having an nP structure, in which an adnominal noun, as a RootP, is adjoined to its subsequent nominal head, thereby forming a phasal unit. Such a structure, by creating a single semantic search unit, may yield a non–compositional reading. Regarding adverbial adnominal nouns, it proposes a structure where a RootP is adjoined to the following verb head. The analyses can explain syntactic and semantic peculiarities of the constructions, while avoiding theory–internal contradictions.

Abstract
