Abstract
Generally, there is no unified opinion about the influence of domestic credit on the economic growth. This paper analyzes whether domestic credit provided by banking sector influences on the economic growth. We use data of World Development Indicators 2010 and panel model for 55 countries. Also, we spilt time into two periods such as 1990s and 2000s to compare two results of each periods. Furthermore, we select Log value of initial GDP per capita as a control variable to verify “Catch-up Effects” of Neo-Classical school. Consequently, there is no evidence that domestic credit lead to economic growth in two periods. Specially, we find significantly negative coefficients between domestic credit and economic growth in random-effects model.
