본 연구는 생성형 인공지능(Generative AI)을 조경설계 교육에 적용하여 그 활용 가능성과 효과를 분석한 연구이다. 최근 AI 기술은 이미지 생성, 자료 분석, 개념 도출 등 다양한 설계 과정에서 활용되며, 디자인의 생산성과 표현의 폭을 크게 확장시키고 있다. 본 연구에서는 조경 및 건축 분야의 일반적 설계 프로세스를 기반으로 AI의 개입 단계를 설정하고, 대학 조경설계 스튜디오 수강생을 대상으로 설계 실험과 인터뷰를 수행하였다. 그 결과, AI는 설계 과정의 효율성과 시각화 능력을 향상시키고, 학습자의 창의적 사고를 자극하는 보조적 역할을 수행하였다. 그러나 정밀한 설계 검증 단계에서는 인간의 판단과 해석이 여전히 중요했으며, 일부 참여자는 기술 의존성과 결과의 불확실성을 한계로 인식하였다. 이러한 결과는 AI가 설계자의 사고를 대체하는 기술이 아니라 사고를 확장하고 보조하는 학습 매개체임을 보여준다. 본 연구는 향후 조경설계 교육이 AI 활용 능력과 창의적 해석력을 균형 있게 강화하여, 인간과 인공지능의 협업을 통한 새로운 설계 교육 모델로 발전할 필요가 있음을 제안한다.
Abstract
This study analyzes the applicability and effects of generative artificial intelligence (Generative AI) in landscape architecture education. Recent AI technologies are applied throughout the design process, including image generation, data analysis, and concept development, enhancing efficiency and expressive diversity. Based on the general design process in landscape and architectural fields, this study defined the stages of AI intervention and conducted studio experiments and interviews with students. The results showed that AI improved design efficiency and visualization while stimulating students’ creative thinking. However, human judgment remained essential in detailed verification, and some participants pointed out technological dependence and uncertainty of outcomes. These findings indicate that AI functions not as a replacement for human creativity but as an educational medium that broadens and supports the designer’s cognitive process. The study suggests that future landscape design education should pursue a balanced integration of AI literacy and creative interpretation to develop a collaborative learning model between humans and artificial intelligence.
