Abstract
This study analyzes the effect of heat stress on milk production. This study uses two models forthe analysis. In model 1, we assume that the relationship between THI and milk production isnon-linear and estimate the optimal THI. In model 2, we use temperature and humidity separatelyto capture the net effect of temperature. The humidity variable is excluded from the final model 2due to statistical significance. We estimate optimal temperature which shows a highest level ofmilk production, marginal effect of milk production, and farm income changes according to thechange of temperature. The results show that the optimal THI is 17.79 and is 7.91 before andafter eliminating autocorrelation. The optimal temperature is 16.5℃ and is 7.4℃ before and aftereliminating autocorrelation. Marginal effects of temperature changes on milk production isdecreasingly increased to the left of optimal temperature and increasingly decreased to the right ofoptimal temperature. Farm income changes depend on the number of milking cows and the degreeof temperature changes.
