Abstract
It was conducted preliminary tests to control the quality of steel-making slag(SMS) whichcould not be controlled the contents of components composed because it is a industrialby-product. Preliminary tests included the chemical change and extraction characterization withparticle distribution and the arsenic(As) sorption characterization with the mixing ratio offerrous(Fe) and calcium(Ca). Ca and Fe are major components to stabilize arsenic in soilsolution. As the results of tests, it was not related the particle distribution of SMS to change chemicalproperties of SMS. The extraction behavior of Fe component in SMS was not easily released and it was only extracted at pH=2 condition. Therefore Fe components in SMS could not bereleased to the environment in normal condition of eco-system. On the effectiveness of arsenic sorption of mixtures, it were shown that Fe and Ca mixturewas more effective than Fe or Ca alone. There were no appeared significant relationshipbetween Fe and Ca components. It was shown that al least 25% of mixing ratio of Fe and Cawill be a good condition to applied as a stabilization agent. Ca alone was effective in initialstage of arsenic sorption but it was appeared the dissolution problem of arsenic component withreaction time. Fe component alone was shown worse the sorption effect of initial stage than thecase of Ca alone but effective in the arsenic sorption of long-term performance.
