Abstract
We investigated the research trend on the Asiatic black bear (Ursus thibetanus) which isdesignated as endangered species in Korea using co-word analysis method. This method analyzethe usage pattern of words in articles and explore the research trend in specific area. It alsoidentifies the strength of association among groups of words in bibliographic data, such askeyword lists, titles, and abstract by multivariate statistical techniques. Total of 97 researchpapers published from 2000 to 2017 were investigated in this study. The most frequent researchtopics had been changed by the time period (5 year). During 2001~2006, researchers focused onthe behavior and ecology of the Asiatic black bear. It changed to biodiversity and populationfrom 2007 to 2013, and conflict with human-bear from 2014 to 2018. Research papers werepublished from 16 countries and Japan (42 cases), China (11 cases) and Korea (9 cases) produced the most. Each country has focused on different issues on the U. thibetanus. Geneticanalysis using microsatellite was appeared the common issue among these three countries. Theresults of co-word analysis of this study showed the research trend on the Asiatic black bearwill contribute to the restoration, conservation and management plans in the future.
