로베르또 볼라뇨의 『야만스러운 탐정들』은 기성세대 문학과 다양한 서사적 교차점을 형성하고 있는 작품이다. 특히, 서사 형식과 내용에 있어 꼬르따사르의 『팔방놀이』에 대한 패러디라 할 수 있을 만큼 상당한 유사성을 보이고 있다. 이에 본 논문은 두 작품의 서사적 유사성과차이를 분석함으로써 볼라뇨가 『팔방놀이』의 서사코드를 변형, 재생산하는 방식과 그러한 문학적 변형이 추구하는 바가 무엇인지 접근하고 있다. 그리고 그러한 분석을 통해 꼬르따사르의『팔방놀이』가 서구의 예술적 유산의 권태로움으로부터 벗어나려는 문학적 시도라면, 볼라뇨의『야만스러운 탐정들』은 삶과 문학을 동일시하면서 현실의 권태를 벗어나 새로운 삶에 대한 탐색을 주문하는 작품임을 밝히고 있다.
Abstract
Los detectives salvajes by Roberto Bolaño contains various narrative codes that intersect with classical and canonical works of several authors such as Cervantes, Schwob, Joyce, Melville, Mark Twain, etc. Considering the structure and the content of the work, it could be a parody of Cortázar’s Rayuela. In this regard, this article presents an approach to the purpose and the consequence of Bolaño’s literary transformation by analyzing the narrative differences and similarities of both works. This study also observes that if Cortázar’s Rayuela is seen as an attempt to escape from the tedious artistic heritage of the West in search of an alternative narrative, Bolaño’s Los detectives salvajes shows that literature is not different from life, but rather demands searching for a new way of life that goes beyond what is tedious and desperate in contemporary reality under the shadow of modernity.
