동아시아 해항도시의 전쟁과 식민지 유산 : 싱가포르와 부산의 활용방식 비교

초록

본 연구의 목적은 동아시아의 대표적 ‘해항도시(海港都市)’인 싱가포르와 부산의 과 거 전쟁과 식민지 유산을 살펴보고 그 활용사례를 비교하여, 향후 부산 및 우리나라 해항 도시의 역사․문화자산에 적용 가능한 함의를 도출하는 것이다. 이론적으로는 ‘다크투 어리즘(Dark Tourism)’ 관점의 이해를 통해 해항도시의 비극적 역사․문화자산의 관리 상의 시사점도 알아본다. ‘다크투어리즘’이란 과거에 죽음과 재난, 불행한 사건이 발생 한 곳을 스스로 방문하고, 그 이후에 나타내는 방문객의 사고 및 행위와 표현을 총체적으 로 일컫는 말이다. 이는 다른 관광과는 차별화된 의미를 가지는데, 뚜렷한 목적을 가진 방문객을 대상으로 한다는 점에서 그러하다. 그래서 학자들은 과거 어두웠던 역사의 유 적과 상처였던 기억자산들이 도시발전과 지역활성화에 적극 활용될 소지가 크다는 것에 주목하고 있다. 그 모범사례로서 싱가포르에서는 실로소 요새, 포트캐닝파크, 크란지 전 쟁기념관, 워메모리얼파크, 영국 식민지배 유적 등을 다크투어리즘 관점에서 체계적으 로 관리․운영하고 있었다. 반면에 부산에서는 6.25전쟁 피란수도의 유적, 일제강점기 수탈의 유적, 임진왜란과 교역의 흔적 등의 풍부한 자산들이 있으나, 그 관리체계 및 자 원적 연계성에서는 상대적 미숙함이 자리하고 있었다. 따라서 본 연구는 두 도시의 사례 를 비교하여 시사점을 도출하였다. 결론에서는 부산이 가진 기존에 주목되지 않았던 여러 유산들의 내용과 특성에 따라, 향후 다크투어리즘 관점에서 새로운 전쟁 및 식민지 유 산들의 자원화 구상이 필요함을 제안하였다.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to examine the concept and theory of the 'dark tourism' for spaces of Singapore and Busan as East Asian sea port cities. Singapore and Busan had similar war and colonial history. So, the two cities could theoretically be subjects of good comparative study. To achieve practical purpose, this study was performed to investigate historic scenes and cultural heritages in Singapore and Busan. Dark tourism has been defined as tourism involving travel to places historically associated with death and tragedy. Dark tourism spaces are those that relate to death and suffering. So, dark tourism is tourism focused on areas of death and disaster for educational or memorialising reasons. The main attraction to dark locations is their historical value rather than their associations with death, disaster and suffering. This study categorized dark tourism places scattered in Singapore and Busan by conducting a survey or case analysis, and identified success factors of the place. This study also found clear differences between the two cities in the utilization and management of historical heritage. Based on significant findings of historic scenes and cultural heritages in Singapore and Busan, practical implications for success of dark tourism in sea port cities were discussed.
