Abstract
In order to supplement the limitations of existing studies that explain consumer sensitivity to online and offline WOM by focusing on cognitive aspects, this study developed a measurement tool for WOM sensitivity that encompasses cognitive and emotional aspects by integrating online and offline environments. To this end, this study conducted qualitative and quantitative research to extract consumer sensitivity items for online and offline WOM and examined the reliability and validity of WOM sensitivity structure. The main results of this study are as follows. First, this study conducted an exploratory survey using a questionnaire to extract consumer sensitivity items to online and offline WOM and analyzed the structure of WOM sensitivity according to the response characteristics to WOM. As a result, it was confirmed that WOM sensitivity is structured into cognitive and emotional aspects. Second, in order to improve the reliability and validity of the WOM sensitivity structuring, a survey was conducted to refine the derived WOM sensitivity items and verify the validity and reliability of the WOM sensitivity measurement items. As a result, it was confirmed that consumer sensitivity to online and offline WOM was structured into 6 items in the cognitive aspect and 8 items in the emotional aspect. This study is significant in that it presents theoretical and practical implications for WOM management by exploring in detail WOM that consumers encounter in various purchasing environments and their dependence on it, and by dealing more in-depth with consumer experiences in the WOM communication environment. The results of this study will be able to suggest a new perspective for WOM communication management and marketing implications for strategically managing consumer experiences and WOM information about the company's products.
