청소년 디지털 시민성에 미치는 SNS 활동과 스마트폰 사용시간의 상호작용 효과

초록

급격한 발전을 거듭해오고 있는 디지털 사회에 디지털 시민성 함양이 중요한 의제로 대두되고 있다. 이에 본 연구는 청소년 디지털 시민성에 영향을 미치는 SNS 활동과 스마트폰 사용시간의 상호작용을 실증적으로 살펴보아 디지털 시민성 함양 교육에 시사점을 제공하고자 한다. 먼저, 성별, 학교급, SNS 활동성, 스마트폰 사용시간 및 디지털 시민성 간의 상관을 살펴보면, 성별은 학교급 및 실천 영역을 제외한 디지털 시민성 하위영역과 부적 상관을 보여 여학생이 남학생보다 인지·정의적 영역의 디지털 시민성이 높을 가능성이 발견되었다. 학교급과 다른 변수 간 상관을 살펴본 결과, 정보 보안 및 안전의 시민성 영역이 학교급이 높아질수록 낮아지는 부적 상관이 나타났다. 다음으로, 학교급과 성별을 통제한 청소년의 SNS 활동성과 스마트폰 사용시간의 상호작용 효과를 살펴본 결과, 디지털 활용 능력(DT), 비판적 미디어 이해 능력(MU), 존중과 관용(RT), 반혐오(AA), 온라인 정체성(OI), 온라인 의사소통 및 협업(OC)에만 효과가 있었다. SNS 활동성과의 상호작용 효과는 스마트폰 사용 시간의 부적 효과를 상쇄시키고 있어 청소년 디지털 시민성 함양에 있어 긍정적인 사회적 자본을 바탕으로 한 SNS 활동성이 중요함을 확인하였다. 아울러 청소년 디지털 시민성에 대한 꾸준한 실증적인 연구의 필요성을 제기하였다.

Abstract

Digital citizenship is becoming an important agenda in rapidly developing digital society. This study was conducted to provide implications for education by empirically examining the interaction between SNS activities and smartphone usage time affecting digital citizenship of teenagers. First, Looking at the correlation between gender and digital citizenship, it was found that female students are more likely to have digital citizenship in the cognitive and affective domain than male students. The correlation between the school level and other variables found that information security and safety tended to decrease as the school level increased. Second, looking at the interaction effects of SNS activities and smartphone usage time among adolescents, it was only effective in digital literacy(DT), critical media understanding(MU), respect and tolerance(RT), anti-hate(AA), online identity(OI), and online communication and collaboration(OC). SNS activity based on positive social capital is important in fostering digital citizenship for teenagers. Digital citizenship has a variety of sub-variables, and the interactions of related variables are different for each of them. In addition, this study suggests that steady empirical research on youth digital citizenship is needed.
