지역관광개발에 대한 도서지역주민의 사회표상－증도 사례를 중심으로－

초록

본 연구는 증도지역주민이 왜 관광을 지지하거나 반대하는지를 이해하기 위하여 사회표상이론의 틀에서 접근하였다. 이를 위하여 Q방법으로 지역관광개발에 대한 증도지역주민의 의견집단 유형을 확인하였고 각 유형의 차이를 진술문과 인터뷰내용을 토대로 해석하여 각 집단의 관광개발에 대한 사회표상을 분석하였다. 분석결과 관광개발에 대한 증도주민의 의견집단은 옹호자, 현실주의자, 대규모 개발 지지자, 반대자 등 4개의 유형이 존재함을 확인하였다. 각 의견집단 유형들이 갖고 있는 증도관광개발에 대한 사회표상을 살펴보면, 옹호자 집단은 ‘증도발전수단’이며, 현실주의자 집단은 ‘지역사회중심’, 대규모 관광개발 옹호자는 ‘대규모 지역개발’이고 반대자집단은 ‘불필요한 것’이었다. 또한 옹호자, 현실주의자, 대규모 관광개발 옹호자 등 3개의 유형들은 각기 그들이 추구하는 관광개발의 방식이나 방향에 대한 상이한 의견차이가 있으나 궁극적으로는 증도관광개발을 지지하고 있음을 알 수 있었다. 하지만 증도관광개발에 대한 지역주민의 긍정적인 태도가 반드시 지역관광개발계획이나 정책의 지지로 이어지는 것은 아니었다. 따라서 본 연구는 지역관광개발계획과 정책 수립과정에서 지역주민의 다양한 의견을 청취하고 그들과 함께 만들어나가는 시스템이 필요함을 시사하고 있다.

Abstract

This article discusses residents attitudes to tourism with social representation framework. This research employed a Q-method and focused on the area of Jeungdo in Shinan-Gun. There were four types of resident attitudes:lovers, realist, large scale lovers, haters. The study found that residents’ attitude is related to the ideological thought of each group holds toward tourism development:a growth alternative of Jeungdo, local centered tourism, local development of large scale, useless. The research show that there were diverse opinions about a way or direction of tourism development among different groups of residents:lovers, realist, large scale lovers, but they were support the local tourism development.
