문화경관으로서의 섬문화유산 해석을 위한 시론적 연구 - 보길도 윤선도 원림 및 관련 해남윤씨가 유산을 중심으로

세계적으로 섬문화유산을 문화경관으로 보고 그 가치를 파악하고 보전하려는 움직임이 점차 힘을 얻고 있다. 섬문화유산은 과거부터 현재까지 섬지역의 자연-사회-문화-인간의 활동이 밀접하게 연계된 살아있는 유산이다. 본 연구는 이러한 섬문화유산의 세계유산적 가치를 찾는 시론적 연구의 일환으로, 먼저 세계유산의 문화경관 개념과 관련 논의를 고찰하였다. 사례로 서남해안의 대표적인 섬문화유산인 보길도 윤선도 원림을 사회경제적 배경과 주변 지역과의 관계를 중심으로 한 문화경관으로 해석하였다. 이를 통해 기존의 점적이고 전통적인 유산 해석의 한계를 보완할 수 있는 ‘면적-신구통합적 문화경관’적 해석의 필요성을 제시하였다. 이를 통해 유기적으로 연계되어 있음에도 불구하고 단일 유산으로 연구되어 왔던 도서․해양유산의 통합적이고 입체적인 가치를 제고할 수 있다. 본 연구는 통합적 관점으로 섬문화유산을 해석한 연구로 세계유산 등재를 위한 기초 연구로서 의의가 있다.
Abstract
Island heritage is seen as cultural landscape globally. And this value is gradually understood and preserved. Island heritage is a living one that has been closely linked to nature, society, culture, and human activities of the island from the past to the present. As an preliminary study searching for the world heritage value of the island heritage, this study first examined the concept of cultural landscape of the world heritage and related discussions. As a case study, Yun seon-do’s Garden heritage in Buyong-dong, Bogil-do was interpreted as a cultural landscape around the socio-economic background and its relationship with the surrounding area. This suggests the necessity of interpretation on cultural landscape that can complement the limitation of the partial and traditional interpretation of the heritage. By interpreting the island heritage from a cultural and landscape perspective, it is possible to enhance the stereoscopic value of island heritage that is distributed apart but is organically linked. This study interprets island heritage in an integrated perspective and is meaningful as a basic study for registering world heritage of island heritage.
