Abstract
This paper was written to promote deeper exchanges between Korea and Uzbekistan in the field of archaeology based on an understanding of their differences. The paper examines Uzbekistan's excavation permits and procedures, excavations, and report writing methods based on actual cases. Based on this, the paper aims to increase understanding of the differences in the administrative procedures and methods of excavation. Translated with DeepL.com (free version) Uzbekistan, a country located in Central Asia, manages 8,205 national tangible heritages by classifying them into archaeological sites, architectural heritages, monuments, and scenic spots. Tangible heritage is distributed throughout Uzbekistan, but is concentrated in the ancient cities of Samarkand, Kashkadaria and Bukhara. A permit and an Opensheet are required for excavation. These documents are issued to archaeologists by the Cultural Heritage Agency. There are four types of Opensheets, and the scope of investigation is divided according to the characteristics of the excavation investigation. Prior to excavation, the Opensheet must be registered with the local offices of the Cultural Heritage Agency and must be carried out within the work guidelines defined in the Opensheet. Field survey is preceded by surveying and division work, and the grid method is adopted. Recently, equipment such as GPR(Ground-Penetrating Radar) and magnetometer have been actively introduced. The survey method is similar to that of the former Soviet Union, such as Kazakhstan, but recently, various methods have been adopted through joint excavation surveys with various countries. The report is usually issued in three copies and submitted to the Cultural Heritage Agency, the Samarkand Archaeological Institute, and related local governments. The composition and writing method of the report are similar to those of Korea. However, there is a difference in that the copyright of the report is recognized.
