Purpose: There are many factors that patients establish a goal weight before weight loss treatment. But little is known about how these factors affect selecting a goal weight. The aim of this study was to evaluate the patient's ratings of factors important in establishing a goal weight and effect of rating of factors on goal weight reduction (%) and goal BMI (body mass index). Methods: A total of 112 female obese subjects, aged ≥ 20 and < 60 from one clinic participated in this study. Patients' goal weight and ratings of factors important in establishing a goal weight were evaluated. Univariate and multivariate analysis were performed to evaluate effect of ratings of factors on goal weight reduction (%) and goal BMI. Results: Mean BMI of subjects was 28.4±3.2 kg/m2. Goal weight averaged a 21.8% reduction in body weight. Patients rated physical and daily life comfort as the most important factors in selecting a goal weight. In univariate regression analysis, ratings of physical and daily life comfort, work efficiency, specific body measurement were effect on goal weight reduction (%) and goal BMI. In multivariate regression analysis, rating of work efficiency was effect on goal weight reduction (%). And ratings of physical and daily life comfort and suggestion by friends were effect on goal BMI. Conclusion: The results of this study demonstrated that physical and daily life comfort, work efficiency, and specific body measurement were effect on establishing a goal weight.
