제주도의 전래놀이를 문헌과 현지조사를 통해 찾아낸 결과 전체 138종목, 현지조사로는 48개 종목을 확인할 수 있었다. 놀이는 유행에 따라 변화하고, 놀이 과정에서 즉각적이고 창의적인 변주가 많다는 점에서 매우 흥미로운 대상이다. 이 글에서는 여기에 덧붙여 놀이에 담긴 지역적, 문화적 특성과 전승 가치를 규명하고자 하였다. 우선 전래놀이에 담긴 제주도만의 지역성은 놀이 명칭과 용어에 담긴 제주어에서 볼 수 있는 언어적 특성, 놀이 도구에 나타나는 자연 환경적 특성, 놀이 방법에 드러나는 지리적 특성, 놀이의 내용에 드러나는 문화적 특성의 네 가지를 정리하였다. 다음으로 놀이의 전승가치로 놀이의 생명력은 단절로 표현할 수 없는 것이라는 점, 놀이에 담긴 역사적 문화적 적층성의 무게에 대해 재고해야 한다는 점, 놀이에 지역의 문화와 지리적 환경, 언어가 담겨 있다는 점, 놀이에 대한 유연한 인식과 태도가 필요하며 살아있는 민속으로서 지속적 관심이 필요하다는 점을 들었다.
Abstract
As a result of finding traditional plays in Jeju Island through literature and field surveys, a total of 138 items were identified, of which 48 items can be identified through field surveys. Children's play is a very interesting object in that it is trendy and has many immediate and creative variations. This article attempted to identify the regional and cultural characteristics and transmission values contained in play. As for the locality of Jeju Island contained in traditional play, the linguistic characteristics found in the Jeju language contained in the name and term of the play, the natural environmental characteristics of the play tool, the geographical characteristics revealed in the play method, and the cultural characteristics revealed in the content of the play were summarized. The values of play can be summarized as follows. The vitality of play cannot be expressed as ‘untransmitted’, and the characteristics of history, local culture, geographic environment, and language are embedded in play, so we should continue to pay attention.
