Abstract
The term effectivenesshas been confused with other similar terms,such as efficiency, impacts, outputs, outcomes, and performance. In particular, theresearch has been insufficient to articulate what effectiveness is in the nonprofitsector. This study begins to address this knowledge gap. In nonprofit-sector orga-nizations, it is important to develop an effectiveness measurement model in orderto build organizational capacity. This study proposes an integrative concept ofeffectiveness on the basis of a thorough literature review of organizational andprogram effectiveness, as well as comparisons with other terms. This studyargues that effectiveness should be assessed in terms of processes, structure, andend results (mission accomplishment) and that the best methodology to measurethese aspects of effectiveness is the balanced scorecard model.
