Abstract

Religious attire is different from the attire of the general public; it defines the identity of religious people, as a symbol of the religious identity and personality. And religious attire itself has a number of iconic representations. Those who directly experienced faith in the religious community through rituals are the ones that should strive to achieve in life. People who participate in religious rituals in connection with the appropriate courtesy wear certain clothing. The inner aspect of religious attire contains important meaning inherent in religious ceremony. When these rituals are carried out to have a religious significance and value, the proper attire to participate in the rituals has an important meaning. Family Federation for World Peace and Unification (FFWPU) emphasizes the relationship between God who is the Creator of the world and human beings as his children, who are in contact with God as parent. Therefore, the attire which is used in some of the rituals is composed in some format in order to express the elegance and value commensurate with human beings who have been supported and raised in love by God, who is the parent. Religious attire further uplifts the meaning and value of rituals when it is worn by blessed families in various rites of FFWPU. Furthermore, religious attire has a godly influence in people’s consciousness and right attitude to immerse themselves in rituals. Religious attire has a function to clarify the fundamental identity of FFWPU that is clearly distinguished from other religious groups. The religious attire of FFWPU can be said to appear in a variety of ways that symbolize the purpose of FFWPU as “one family under God.”
