Abstract
This article is a tentative to establish the fundamental principle for the application of problem-posing teaching and learning method in the history classroom. The study comprises of three parts, the educational principle of problem-posing teaching and learning method, the pedagogical meaning of learner’s problem-posing activity, and the teacher’s professionalism with very different characters from the other teaching and learning methods. Firstly, the problem-posing method in education has the specific education principle. It denies the reproduction of knowledge because the learner must construct himself the signification of history and the concept of history. It does not mean that the learner makes the new concept of history. The object of this method is to improve the learner’s ability to criticise and interpretate history. The learner is the main agent in the problem-posing teaching and learning classroom. He himself brings up the subject and controls the process of learning. His view of subject gets the problem posing under way. The problem-posing is the learner’s representation of subject. The learner makes the problem of the limit in the space and the time. His response is a hypotheses. His purpose of problemposingis for the validation or invalidation of the hypotheses. That experiences permit the learner to construct the knowledge in his own way. In the problem-posing history classroom, the teacher plays the role of assistance in course of the learning activity of student. He does not make the explanatory discourse in the classroom. He provides the student the subject which incites the discussion, interrogation, and interpretation. It is the subject that make consider the causality of the historical fact.
