초록
Traditional patterns were developed by our inherent racial characteristics and lifestyles that are constituted by natural conditions and historical backgrounds, and their inherent spirit and manner of expression have kept close relationship with our ancestors' lives while originating from our racial history, climate, and periodical situations; this accomplished the established cultural systems and settled as a part of social culture. I aim to understand the traditional social culture and re-illuminate the value of traditional patterns by examining in depth the meaning and symbolic value in such a time as the present when the preservation and inheritance of our racial culture is desperately needed more than ever for the reasons of globalization that is stirring in the current society. Moreover, I aim to research the periodical backgrounds and desires of patterns, especially plant patterns, that appear on traditional craft works and examine the process of transformation and symbolic meaning of form; anew the molding beauty by classifying them. Also, I aim to dye silk with materials like acid dyes, paraffin, and alcohol to express newly transformed forms implicitly and metaphorically by reconstructing their universal hopes and prayers. I hope to find possibility of pursuit of molding value of traditional patterns, by changing symbolic meanings and functions of plant patterns from past traditional artistic point of view to a modern artistic perspective.
