About 55 ethnic minorities in China have created various traditional culture through thousands years of changes and developments. Their traditional textiles take a significant portion of such cultural elements. However, current researches on minorities’ traditional textile are treated as part of minorities’ traditional style of apparel and civilian craft. Therefore, it is regarded valuable to research. This study tried to help understand various minorities culture by investigating the distribution of minorities and sociocultural characteristics through theoretical inquiry and examined materials, tools, and machinery of Chinese minorities’ traditional textiles. Characteristics of various minorities’ traditional textiles were investigated, compared and analyzed through classification which was made out into 4 sorts as dyeing, weaving, embroidery and other method based on the manufacturing method. Based on this, this thesis proceeded a classification and a basic research of each sort of complex crafts, the minorities’ traditional textile crafts. This study is expected to present basic data to understand and research Chinese minorities’ traditional textile crafts culture and to play an important role in succeeding and developing it.
