Abstract
This paper investigates the wave run-up and depression phenomena around a square cylinder using numerical simulations. Specifically, the researchers utilized Star CCM+, a commercial computational fluid dynamics (CFD) program, to numerically solve the Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) equations. Three different Froude numbers (0.4, 0.84, and 1.2) were employed to study the characteristics of wave run-up and depression. The study aims to compare its findings with previous experimental and numerical investigations. Additionally, the researchers examined how the cross-sectional shape of cylinders, specifically comparing square and circular cylinders, affects the wave run-up and depression heights. The paper likely includes details on the methodology employed in the numerical simulations, such as the computational grid setup, boundary conditions, turbulence model selection, and post-processing techniques. Furthermore, it discusses the results obtained from the simulations, including the wave run-up and depression heights, their variations with different Froude numbers, and the influence of the cylinder's cross-sectional shape on these phenomena.
