Abstract

This study presents the implementation of an intelligent monitoring system for detecting internal abnormalities in switchgear, which are difficult to identify using conventional power protection devices. The proposed system utilizes multiple RGB cameras and infrared temperature sensors to simultaneously monitor bolt loosening and temperature variations in internal components, thereby enabling early fire prevention through real-time detection of thermal anomalies. A motorized mechanism enables the cameras to capture images from multiple vertical positions, and a SIFT (Scale-Invariant Feature Transform)-based image analysis algorithm is applied to merge multiple images into a unified frame, effectively eliminating structural blind spots. To evaluate the system’s performance, a comprehensive field test was conducted on three parameters: temperature sensing accuracy, sensor module movement accuracy, and bolt loosening detection after displacement. The test results showed an average temperature sensing error of 1.09°C, vertical positioning error of 0.57 mm, and bolt rotation angle detection error of 1.07°. These results confirm that the proposed system enables fast and accurate monitoring of the internal conditions of switchgear, particularly in relation to early detection of bolt loosening and fire hazard risks.
