모란봉악단 ‘제5차 훈련일꾼대회 참가자를 위한 기념공연’ 의미와 전망

2012년 7월 김정은의 직접 지시로 결성된 모란봉악단은 북한의 의미 있는 기념일이나 중요한 행사에는 반드시 축하공연을 개최했다. 각 공연 때마다 행사 성격에 맞는 노래로 구성되었고 정치적 의도를 담은 신곡을 발표하였다. ‘음악정치’로 대변되는 북한체제에서 모란봉악단은 김정은 시대를 대변하는 또 하나의 창이라 할 수 있다. 모란봉악단 공연은 당시의 북한 내부 정치적 상황과 북한 당국의 정치담론을 유추해 낼 수 있는 하나의 잣대라 할 수 있다. 이번 ‘제5차 훈련일꾼대회 참가자를 위한 기념공연’ 역시 북한 당국이 노래를 통해 전달하고자 하는 정치적 메시지가 분명히 담겨있다. 본 연구는 모란봉악단의 시범공연 이후 21번째 공연으로 볼 수 있는 ‘제5차 훈련일꾼대회 참가자를 위한 기념공연’을 분석하고 이를 통해 정치적 의도와 시사점을 찾는데 목적이 있다. 북한당국의 정치상황과 의도는 여러 요인을 통해 분석할 수 있다. 그런데 ‘음악정치’로 표현될 만큼 공연을 통한 선전선동이 강조되고 있기 때문에 모란봉악단을 통한 정치적 의도를 파악하는 것은 의미가 크다.
Abstract
Formed by the direct order of Kim Jung Eun in July, 2012, the Moranbong Band has put on celebratory performances at the significant anniversaries and major events of North Korea without fail. The Band has sung songs fit for the nature of each event and announced new songs with political intentions at each performance. In the North Korean regime represented by "musical politics," the Band is another window to represent the era of Kim Jung Eun. The performances of the Band serve as a yardstick to estimate the internal political situations of North Korea and the political discourse of North Korean regime at the time of performance. The "Commemorative Performance for the Participants of the Fifth Training Workers' Convention" clearly contained the political messages that the North Korean regime wanted to spread through songs. This study set out to analyze the "Commemorative Performance for the Participants of the Fifth Training Workers' Convention," which was the 21st performance of the Band since its pilot performance, and find the political intentions and implications of the North Korean regime in it. The political situations and intentions of North Korean regime can be analyzed through many different factors. It is very significant, however, to figure out the political intentions through the Moranbong Band since the propaganda and agitation through performance are emphasized so much that they are expressed as "musical politics."
