Abstract

A Study on the Multilateral Environmental Cooperation in the Northeastern Asia Kim, Sung-soo(Ph.D. Dept. of Political Science, Inje University) This study pays attention to the threats of transbordering environmental pollution problems such as air-pollution and ocean-contamination in the Northeastern Asia. It recognizes that the environment has become a very important variable for the international security and friendship among the neighboring nations. Therefore, it emphasizes the necessity of building a working system of multilateral environmental cooperation . The contractual environment enhances the level of cooperation and the enforcement of international environmental agreement. Within the contractual environment, international agreements can help the nations of Northeastern Asia to exchange data concerning the pollution problems, and build up the capacity and technology to cope with the environmental threats. Some relevant policy proposals are suggested.
