Abstract
Silver nanowires (AgNW) have emerged as promising materials for next-generation flexible transparent conductive films (FTCF) due to their excellent electrical conductivity and optical transmittance, offering a viable alternative to conventional indium tin oxide (ITO). However, the high contact resistance at AgNW junctions significantly degrades electrode performance. Therefore, there is a need for a welding process that can effectively welding junctions without inducing thermal damage to polymer substrates. In this study, a uniform AgNW network was fabricated using a spray coating method, and the effects of microwave power and irradiation time on nanowire junction welding were systematically investigated. Microwave irradiation induced localized heating through the skin effect mechanism, enabling junction fusion and improved electrical connectivity under optimized conditions. In contrast, excessive power or prolonged exposure led to wire breakage driven by Rayleigh instability, resulting in increased sheet resistance. The optimized microwave condition of 600 W for 2 s indicated a minimum sheet resistance of 4.1 Ω/sq while maintaining transmittance above 93%, demonstrating the effectiveness of microwave welding for high-performance AgNW transparent electrodes.
