초록

This paper analyses the motivations behind the desire to weaponise space. In order to address the practical utility of space weapons, this paper analyses their application theory, virtues and flaws before analysing what these mean for the nations which are likely to drive space policy making in the near-term. Each nation has differing views on weaponising space and, in order to understand the driving factors behind the militarization of space the US, Russia and China have been selected and considered for their positions so that nuanced value can be assessed for the strategic importance of space in 21st century conflict.

Abstract

This paper analyses the motivations behind the desire to weaponise space. In order to address the practical utility of space weapons, this paper analyses their application theory, virtues and flaws before analysing what these mean for the nations which are likely to drive space policy making in the near-term. Each nation has differing views on weaponising space and, in order to understand the driving factors behind the militarization of space the US, Russia and China have been selected and considered for their positions so that nuanced value can be assessed for the strategic importance of space in 21st century conflict.
