Abstract
This study analyzed the research trends in men's suits in KCI-listed journals from 2010 to 2024. A total of 55 papers were selected after searching for men's suit research in eight major South Korean apparel-related journals. The results showed that the research on men's suits exhibited significant variation while maintaining a higher number of pub- lications throughout the 2010s, reaching peaks in 2011 and 2014 , before entering a period of general decline in the 2020s, notwithstanding a temporary resurgence in 2021. Text analysis revealed that the main research themes centered on cloth- ing's social psychology, marketing, design and aesthetics, and garment construction, with very frequent keywords such as “image”, “style”, “size”, “body”, and “brand”. A notable trend is the shift in research focus. While early research from 2010 to 2014 concentrated on consumer satisfaction and clothing components, recent research from 2020 to 2024 has increasingly emphasized the suit's role as a cultural signifier. This thematic shift incorporates newly emerging terms such as “music”, “hip hop”, “soul”, and “resistance” and reflects contemporary social issues such as the COVID-19 pandemic. Although the suit holds strong historical and symbolic meaning, limited attention has been paid to its evolution and pro- duction contexts, suggesting several critical directions for future research. Pursuing these avenues is vital for fully appre- ciating the suit's complex cultural and sartorial history.
