Abstract
Previously known kuṇḍalinī in haṭha yoga has been known to the public in a state that the India philosophical doctrine of it has not been fully understood. So it has made many misunderstandings about kuṇḍalinī. So, for a understanding under a just viewpoint of the Indian philosophy, this study considered on kuṇḍalinī in the fifth chapter of Tantrasāra that is a important literature of non-dual śaiva tantra that is a important source of haṭha yoga. According to this study, the kuṇḍalinī process in the fifth chapter of Tantrasāra is explained as the seven stages of ānanda ― nijānanda, nirānanda, parānanda, brahmānanda, mahānanda, cidānanda, jagadānanda ― that can be called as the returning process of a individual consciousness to the Universal consciousness, or a purification process of a consciousness. This study explained in a concrete way physical and physiological phenomenons of the kuṇḍalinī process, especially using Swami Lakshmanjee’s(1907-1991) explaining on the seven stages of ānanda. Swami Lakshmanjee was the last pandit of the 20th century of the non-dual śaiva tantra tradition in Kashmir. This study shows that kuṇḍalinī in the fifth chapter of Tantrasāra is the returning process in that individual consciousness degenerated to gross prāṇa goes back to the original Universal consciousness, and this process is based on the doctrine of non-dual śaiva tantra. And we can know that the terms as like the descending kuṇḍalinī(adhaḥkuṇḍalinī), the consciousness kuṇḍalinī(citkundalini) and some names of cakras in the terms of kuṇḍalinī system of the non-dual śaiva tantra are not shown in the terms of kuṇḍalinī system of haṭha yoga.
