초록
Alzheimer’s disease(AD) is a heterogeneous, multifactorial and devastating degenerative disorder which accounts for half to two-thirds of all cases of latelife intellectual failure in many developed countries where life expectancies are high. AD represents the fourth leading cause of death in the United States and its profound morbidity has a major socioeconomic impact. Its frequency increases strongly with age, from less than 1% in people aged 65years to over 25% in those who are aged 85years or over. Although recent advances in molecular biological and genetic approaches identify several risk factors and responsible molecules associated with AD, such as apolipoprotein E, presenilins, and β-amyloid proteins, the exact etiopathogenesis of AD is still poorly understood.
