Abstract
In this paper, we examined the possibility of using RFID(Radio Frequency Identifier) for tracking coastal coarse sediments. While RFID technology is a widely used method in other countries, no report has applied this technique as yet in Korea. To test the possibility, we implanted a tag in a gravel as a tracer, and measured how far it can be identified using existing commercial products. The pilot result shows the identifiable distance of 10㎝ ~ 70㎝ when the tracer stands alone or is buried under gravel. Literature research and the experiment show some merits(variable frequency, enough identifiable distance in fields and good the benefits against the coasts) of using RFID tags. So it can be possible to apply RFID technology to track gravel beach sediments in Korea.
